Beenie Man turns his ITV interview into a song: “Weh Di Money Deh”
A year after Hurricane Melissa, the King of the Dancehall asks where the recovery money went — and Jamaica is listening.

Dancehall has always been the island's newspaper, and Beenie Man just filed a front page. Days after an ITV News interview in which he questioned whether Hurricane Melissa relief money was reaching the people who needed it, he released "Weh Di Money Deh" on Monday, November 2, on his own Beenie Man Music imprint.
The song puts the interview to a riddim: recovery, transparency and who gets help a year after the storm. DancehallMag reports that searches for the song shot to No. 1 on Jamaica's Google trends, and The Gleaner says the row has produced memes and "a whole lot of conversation."

Beenie Man told The Gleaner the song was never the plan: "I was speaking from my heart, out of concern for the people who have been affected by the hurricane. Weh Di Money Deh came after." You don't have to agree with every line to respect the tradition. Jamaican artists have always said in songs what other people would only whisper.
Run it, then tell us: is this the dancehall song of the year conversation starting right now?
